Should the United States overlook these issues to further its own economic prosperity and hope that through economic ties political cultural diffusion will occur and bring freedom to China?
OR
Should the United States actively work with international organizations like the United Nations to try and force immediate change in China through formal negotiations, trade sanctions, or boycotts?

I think that we should overlook these problems because we have too many goods imported from China and we make almost nothing for ourselves. Unless China goes through a huge industrial break down I think that we should leave them alone and not anger them in any way to make them loose trust with us trade wise. We got 337 billion dollars worth of trade in 2008. If we were to stop trade with China we would dig our selves in a deeper economic hole than we are now.
Also, I think that if we were to try anything violent China might invade a non-communist country and try to spread communism... and we don't want that to happen.
I think we should overlook these issues because really, we're nothing without China. Most of our goods come from China, and if we cut off trade with China, we would lose a lot of money and goods.
I think we should work with international orginizations like the United Nations to try and force immediate change. We do have a lot invested in China and we are dependent on them but China also needs us to buy their goods. If we help to better the working conditions and improve human rights the people of China will respect the United States more. I disagree with Mr. Hack; yes we depend on China, but they also need us.
I also think we should look over these issues going on in China. China is now one of the leading exporters of goods and the U.S. is receiving many of those goods. If we were to stop trading with them it would not benefit us because we depend on them for trade so much. It really depends on what happens in the future. If China has an economic break down we need to pull away from them, but if they keep a good stable economy then we should stay with them. The only problem is we are not making enough goods therefore we are in a trade deficit with China. This could be a problem if/when China hit an economic low. The U.S. would be suffering because there are not enough goods and also China will come to us and say we helped you in your time of need, now we need help.
I believe that we should continue trading with china. It doesn’t really matter what they are doing to there people over there. It’s not our problem. As long as we get the goods that we need and give them to the people who demand them we shouldn’t care what they say. We would never act like them. China is one of the biggest distributers that we trade with. If we lose trade with them we will have no goods for our people who demand them. So in my eyes we should continue to trade with them.
I believe that we should try to work with organizations like the United Nations to work for a change in human rights. If we continue to trade with China and overlook the way it's government treats it's people then we are condoning human rights violations. I don't believe this problem needs to become a violent conflict between us and China, but change is needed.
I agree with carly in the sense that we need to increase our own industrial output. I think that we should overlook the human rights violations right now, only because of the fact that we are economically dependant on the Chinese. Though I recognize that we rely Chinese labor, I do not agree with the human rights violations that we know are occuring. Thus, I think that we should slowly try to influence China into reforming their practices, ending the trouble we have with the way they treat their people. After all we must realize that we do not control everyting that happens in the world, and sometimes the condition of our own people is more important than the condition of the people in other countries.
I think the United States should continue to trade with China. At the same time the US should let China know they are treating their people poorly and help them realize that it is not right, and let our culture rub off on them.
I believe that the U.S. should try to work with international organizations in order to try and force change in China by way of negotiating, trade sanctions and boycotts. This can increase our chances of our goals being accomplished, and it can also convince other countries to convince China to change. However, if we choose to just improve our economic prosperity and hope China will become free all by itself, we won’t be keeping as sharp an eye out for them. This is why I support the fact that we should try to force change amongst the Chinese, and just sit around and hope for the best.
If we try to force China to change the way they treat their people we might cause a war. As long as they keep their workers in good health so we can get what we need we should not worry about their rights that are violated. We need to take care of our own!
I agree with Trent. I don't think the United States should try and get involved with how China is violating the human rights of its own people. We should keep trading with China, because as long as we get the goods our people demand then our economic system won't get even worse than it already is. If we try and get involved with China and how they treat THEIR people then China might just give us the cold shoulder and stop trade with us on their own. No matter what, China is going to do what China wants to do. So, I think we should continue to trade with China.
I think that we should continue trading with China because most of our goods come from China. I also think we should just leave them alone and let them live how they want and worry about our own country before others.
I agree with Marissa that we should continue to trade with China because most of our goods we get from there. We depend on China for trading but they also depend on us. But I think that we should talk with China on how they are treating their people. Hopefully, China will notice how they are treating their people and stop violating human rights.
I think that the United States should continue trading with China, but also we need to sit Hu Jintao down and let him know that he is treating his people wrong and they don't diserve this. If you're going to control them at least treat them right.
I agree with Elyssa that we should continue trading with China. If we were to stop trading with them it would not help us because we depend on them for trade. China is one of biggest trading- partners. I also disagree with Elyssa. I think we should mind our own business because we don’t want to lose trust with them and have them not trade with us.
I agree with Ashton because we do rely on China for most of our goods from trading. We can't convince China to treat their people fairly. Even though all citizens in China get the same, without acknowledging the amount of work, we still cannot affect their control. Also we are facing troubles in our country as well. We should not try to influence other control before we settle our problems. China treats their people unfairly but that should not affect us.
I think that we should not overlook the problems in China just for economical benifit. There are too many problems in China that concern human rights. Although China is good trade source, there are people that do not have the same rights as us. we need to cooperate with nations like the UN to right the nation of China. I believe that there is a way to change the Chinese government for the better and still keep trade with China.
I think we should continue to trade with China. I agree with Ashton in that we should try to influence China to change the way they treat their people. I agree with Marissa and Elyssa that we depend on China, and I think if we make any changes that are too harsh or abrupt, we could risk losing trade with them.
I agree with Marissa. i think that we should keep trading with China. They are where most of our goods come from and without the goods from China, our country wouldn't have enough. They are our biggest trade partner. Although I also agree with Elyssa. I think that to keep trading with China but also talking to them to try and fix their human rights issues would help.Although we can't force China to change, at least we can try and help them.
I disagree with jack because the problems of another country's is not ours. We shouldn't worry about someone else's problems when we have economic problems of our own. If we discontinue trade with China our economy could go very bad. Most of our products are made in China and if we were to get rid of our trade with them our economy situation would be very bad.
I agree with Ian in that we should overlook these problems they are having. Most of our products we sell in stores and other places come from China. If we stopped trade with them then we would lose all of those things. We have billions of dollars worth in trade every year. we would lose they would lose a lot of money too.
I agree with Brit.I think we should contiue to trade with China because since most of our goods come from China, if we don't trade with we are just going to end up in a real econimic slump bigger then we are now. But we have to think of the big picture, if we do stop trading with China because of how they treat their people that can affect us. Plus if we do try to change them it might not even work, they might just keep doing what they have been doing.
I think that we should keep trading with China becaue we get most of our goods from them. I agree with Marissa that we should mind our own business because without China we will not have any products to put on the market. I also get where Elyssa is coming from but we cant risk our trust with China because we depend on them.
I think we should overlook China's violations to human rights and continue our trade with them. I believe we should continue our trade with them since China is amoung one of our top trading countries with the United States. Even though violation of human rights is wrong to do, I agree with brittany, about how our country should continue trading with China. China's government is very powerful, and for our country to jeapardize our own economy to help China run there own country is just too much to risk at this time.
In the words of George Bernard Shaw, the one thing that people learn from history is that people learn nothing from history. When Jimmy Carter was president he insisted that human rights be a consideration for any negotiations with another country. While his ideas were noble, we do not live in a utopian society. Jimmy Carter's presidency was paralyzed by his position on human rights. His presidency accomplished virtually nothing. We do not want to commit the same mistakes as the Carter administration. We can not include human rights as a negotiating factor with the People's Republic of China.
I agree with Jack we should not overlook the problems in China while trading with them. Trading with China is one of our biggest economical factors in our country and if we start to enter political problems with them they could end up cutting us out of trade in their conutry. The US also owes as of last summer $772 billion to China so in my mind I don't think it is a good idea to try to enter Human Rights talks with someone that we owe that much to. I also agreee with Ian if we got that much money in trade from China last year ($337 billion) then why try to step in and change something when we have that strong of trade. If we step in we will probably jeopardize one of the strongest trade ties that this country has and find ourselves in a deeper economical hole then we can handle. I think that eventually China will change over time and all we need to do is wait and not get involved.
I believe that we should not be overlooking the problems that are going on in China. Even though we want to have an economic growth, it is not going to be worth it. China is not a democracy and therefore does not stand for the same human rights needs as we do. As much as we want to help them, I believe that we need to be focusign on our own nations issues instead of trying to bring freedom to China.
I believe that we should not get involved with the issues that China is having with human rights. I believe that since China is our biggest trade partner, we shouldn't get involved because it can effect our relationship with trade. I disagree with Jack because China can handle their own problems without our help. We export much less to China than what China exports to the U.S so if we do get involved, China might bring up how much money we owe them due to trade.
Josh has a good point about that we shouldn’t get involved. But also we can’t really overlook it. China depends on us as buyers so if we were to leave they'd go into a deep state of economic depression. But we should take less economically lethal ways to try and help prevent the horrible lack of freedom. Without using trade sanctions and boycotts.
I agree with I believe that we should just overlook the problems that China is giving us. One reason that I think we should overlook the problems that the Chinese are giving us because we are already are fighting two wars and a third war would just put our country over the edge. Another reason is because our economy is bad enough, if we had to pay to support another war it would make our economy so bad that we might never be able to overcome it. I agree with Josh Lewis because he says that China is our biggest trade partner and we cant afford to loose their support.
I think that we should just stay out of it and see if they give there people freedom. I think this because if we force them it could start another war. We do not need another war because of the one we are in now. It is just best to stay out of it and see if it is going to be resolved. The other bad thing is if we do act they could cancel the trading with us and we could be without things we need.
I think that we should just boycott their products unless they give their citizens human rights and clearly state that that is why we are doing it that way me will be able to cut of a large amount of are imports which should help us get are economy going again and maybe get them to get give their citizens human rights.
I agree with dRoss. We Should boycott their products unless they give their citizens human rights. We Should clearly state what we are doing.
